Halesowen-based accountancy firm, Nicklin LLP, has welcomed a
new 'fit note' scheme which is hoped could save UK businesses up to
£240million during the next ten years.
The scheme, due to be launched on April 6, will replace the
current doctor's sick note system, and is designed to clamp down on
the cost of employee absence due to ill health.
The revolutionary 'fit note' system will see doctors informing
employers of what tasks the employee can do, instead of simply
signing them off work completely.
Doctors will be able to advise that some level of performance by
the employee would be possible if temporary changes could be made
by the employer, such as reduced hours or amended duties.
The Government hopes that this new initiative will end long-term
sick leave absences, which currently cost businesses dearly, and
make sure that employers do not lose the benefits of their
employees' skills and expertise.
Information on the fit note scheme can be found at on the DWP
website, at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/fitnote, and further help will be
made available to firms in April, with the implementation of an
occupational health advice line.
Mark Northall of Nicklin Management Services said: "Hopefully,
fit notes will significantly reduce the costs that employers often
have to face when their staff are off sick for a prolonged amount
of time.
"Nicklin's dedicated payroll department can help businesses with
payroll issues, especially as things may get more complex due to
the fit note meaning people could be working different hours.
"We offer a comprehensive, tailor-made payroll service to
employers, taking care of all administration and the completion of
all statutory forms, as well as providing customised payslips and
organising payments."
