Creative business people from across Leicestershire have found a
new way to meet others and gain inspiration through an innovative
networking project.
CreativeCoffee Club, the brainchild of Professor Sue Thomas of
De Montfort University and Toby Moores CEO of games company
Sleepydog, aims to provide creative people from business, academia
and the public sector with a place to meet like-minded
individuals.
Backed by DMU, CreativeCoffee Club now meets in the Screen
Lounge at Phoenix Square Digital Media Centre in Leicester for
'coffee, conversation and creativity'. The fortnightly meetings are
aimed at getting people together to share ideas, get inspired and
motivated. Once a month a guest speaker will give a short
presentation of interest to the Creative Sector.
The group meet online too, through the Twitter hashtag #ccleic,
on Facebook and LinkedIn. They also have a blog, where round ups of
the sessions are posted and new members introduced.
"Creativity can be a lonely process" says Sue Thomas "especially
if you have set up your own business too. We offer people the
chance to meet others who are going through a similar process, in
an informal setting"
She continued "We've already sparked a number of interesting
collaborations and are very excited about the prospect of more to
come. This year we have introduced some guest speakers to
CreativeCoffee Club, aimed at introducing new ideas to the group,
starting conversations or developing professional skills."
Dorothy Warner, Head of Development at Phoenix Square said "we
are committed to supporting creative businesses in Leicestershire
and providing a residency for CreativeCoffee Club is proving an
excellent way for Phoenix to network with creatives. Phoenix
Square has a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere with great food
and coffee and the members feel right at home here."
CreativeCoffee Club meets fortnightly on a Wednesday from 10am
to 12pm.
