After 12-months of themed fundraising days, sponsored leg waxes,
marathons, art exhibitions, raffles and quizzes, Midlands law firm
Challinors has handed over a cheque for £8247.14 to local
charity Focus Birmingham.
Sarah Corser, an Associate at Challinors and head of the firm's
fundraising team explains: "Staff throughout the firm and across
each of Challinors' five regional offices have put boundless
creativity and enthusiasm into raising this amazing total sum of
money for Birmingham Focus.
"The year-long calendar of fundraising events has spanned a quiz
with twenty-six teams from Birmingham-based firms and businesses at
the Jamhouse which made over £2,000, to dress down and themed
days, cake raffles and sales, and even a sponsored leg wax for the
brave men in the firm!"
A partner in Challinors' family team, Joe Kerrigan, ran the
Birmingham half marathon and raised over £300 for the
charity, whilst Nigel Sellar and Andrew Bowen, both partners in the
Clinical Negligence team, organised a fundraising concert featuring
1980's music sensation Wreckless Eric, at the Old Joint Stock
Theatre.
"As part of Challinors' support of the charity and its
invaluable work, the firm also hosted an exhibition of the work of
members of the Focus Birmingham Art Group," says Sarah.
"Twenty-seven paintings and several clay sculptures created by ten
visually impaired artists in the Group, led by volunteer tutors
Graham Barber and Ian Reynolds, made-up the exhibition with the
work on display in the reception area and meeting rooms at the
firm's Birmingham office."
Focus Birmingham's CEO Amanda Orchard said: "The charity, based
in Harborne, supports children and adults who have visual
impairments and other disabilities in order to allow them to lead a
more fulfilling and independent life, by offering facilities
including a day centre, two residential homes and teams of
Rehabilitation and Community workers. Fundraising financial support
is an invaluable lifeline for the charity to enable us to continue
to provide these facilities and specialist support to our service
users. Clearly, we are immensely grateful to all the staff at
Challinors for the unwavering support, commitment and dedication in
raising this great sum."
Focus Birmingham supports people with visual impairments and
other disabilities, together with their carers, to live fulfilling
and independent lives, by providing services that reflect their
wants and needs. Its vision is of a world where visual impairment
and other disabilities do not limit or determine opportunity, and
where people value their sight. For more information, visit:
