The UK's best upstairs downstairs experience is set to become
the nation's best Easter day out as spring has finally sprung at
the Shugborough Estate.
The Complete Working Historic Estate, near Stafford, transforms
each year into a spring-time spectacle as the 900 acre park leaps
to life and the air is filled with a cacophony of birdsong.
The riverside gardens of the stately home are packed with
thousands and thousands of daffodils ready to burst into bloom and
at the working Georgian farm, the annual baby boom is already
underway. Here, visitors can meet newborn goats, lambs, calves,
chicks and bunnies and even help out with the bottle-feeding.
But spring certainly doesn't stay outdoors at Shugborough. The
stunning mansion house is filled with breath-taking displays of
spring flowers while in the working servants' quarters, costumed
Victorian servants will be Easter baking in the enormous estate
kitchen and brewing up a special Easter ale in the traditional
wood-fired brewhouse. In the laundry, visitors can help the maids
with the spring cleaning and have a go at dollypegging, scrubbing
and ironing.
In the farmhouse dairy, people are encouraged to get elbow deep
in curds and whey and help make cheese and butter, while the Easter
bread will be made in the scullery bread oven.
For youngsters, there are a host of hunts, trails and quizzes
along with face painting, craft activities and storytimes.
Elegant horse and carriage rides will run through the historic
parkland on Easter Monday and on the same day, there will also be
traditional brass band entertainment and Victorian outdoor toys and
games for youngsters to get involved with.
Shugborough is open daily from 11-5pm. In addition to the main
entertainment from April 2-5, Easter themed activities will take
place right across the school holidays until April 14.
Shugborough also boasts a working walled garden, craft
workshops, a tearoom, a play area and a fun land train. The
stunning estate sits within a designated Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty.
