In a unique partnership, two Notts building firms are to present
a seminar on how they together created a zero carbon home in the
East Midlands.
Nottingham-based Clegg Developments and Baggaley and Jenkins of
Mansfield joined forces with architects Stephen George and Partners
to build five town houses and one zero carbon property at
Mountsorrel, near Loughborough.
Developer Clegg took on Baggaley and Jenkins to carry out the
building works on the zero carbon home. Together with the
architects, the companies worked in collaboration to achieve BRE
code 6 compliance, the highest rating possible for an eco-friendly
home.
Carol Atherton, business development director of Baggaley and
Jenkins, said: "Most homes in the UK are rated minus five when it
comes to CO2 emissions. To eliminate CO2 emissions, the government
directive; particularly if new build schemes receive public
funding; is for new build properties to attain minimum code 3, and
preferably 4, 5 or 6.
"Together with Clegg, we achieved code 6 compliance at
Mountsorrel, which is a great accomplishment for the companies
involved. We worked together on a collaborative working partnership
to attain this and now we are keen to tell other people how we
achieved this."
The seminar will be held at Mansfield Town Football Club on 18
March from 9am to 11.30am. Firms are invited to come along to the
event, which will also be a chance to network.
"The seminar aims to show that compliance is achievable through
collaborative working and our objective is to provide a genuine,
open and honest presentation detailing and sharing the knowledge of
our experience in achieving code 6 compliance and the importance of
location, design and management procedures," added Carol.
