There is a second opportunity to grab a slice of British
motoring history when it comes under the hammer at a strong
residential auction in Birmingham next month.
45 Anderton Park Road, Moseley, is a five-bed property whose
attached three-room coach house has strong connections to early
Jensen racing cars, and is again included when the latest Bigwood
sale goes ahead on March 4 at the Holte Suite, Aston Villa.
The complex surprisingly failed to sell last time round but the
guide price has now been cut to between £375,000 and
£385,000 against the previous £400,000 to
£450,000.
Brothers Richard and Allan Jensen built individual sports cars
on the Austin and then Standard chassis in the 1920s and early
30s.
At the time the first Jensen special was launched, the family
was living around the corner in Bloomfield Road and then moved to
95 Anderton Park Road.
Ron Horton, a friend of the Jensens, was at No 45 and used their
special-bodied race cars between 1932 and 1935. The coach house was
where he prepared them.
Bigwood director Jonathan Hackett said: "The coach house is part
of a substantial investment property.
"We were very surprised that despite all the interest it wasn't
picked up before Christmas. With the price significantly lowered it
should prove very attractive."
The property stands in just over a quarter of an acre.
Bigwood, recently named the Midlands' leading auction house by
Estates Gazette and one of the largest auction houses outside
London, is also offering the site of the former Hob Moor Primary
School in Stechford, which was demolished in 2007.
It has a guide price of £325,000. The site extends to just
over one and a half acres and could be suitable for use as a care
home.
There are a host of properties in popular locations on offer -
58 Eastern Road, Wylde Green, is a mid-terrace with a guide price
of £170,000 to £180,000; 166 Parkhill Road, Harborne,
is also a mid-terrace and is available at £195,000 to
£225,000; The Lodge, 2A Moor Green Lane, Moseley, Birmingham,
can be picked up for around £60,000; and there is a
semi-detached at 53 Lighthorne Road, Solihull, £145,000 to
£155,000.
Apartment 65, The Blue Apartments, Broadway Plaza, Edgbaston,
has a guide price of £80,000 and is on the site of the former
children's hospital.
Flats at multi-storey Caradoc Close, Coventry, at £25,000
to £30,000, look set to attract bargain hunters.
Meanwhile, 170 Hubert Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham, is available
at in excess of £135,000 and should appeal to a student
landlord.
The auction includes property on behalf of Birmingham City
Council, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and Wolverhampton
City Council.
