Lodders ready to get on their bikes for
charity
Two Midlands lawyers are to get on their bikes for
charity. Both will cycle more than 100 miles but one will
never move an inch. One will be in the warmth of a gym while
the other will be braving all weathers.
However, Alex Fair and Alastair Frew, both of whom work for
Stratford-upon-Avon and Cirencester-based Lodders, reckon either
way it is going to hurt.
Alex will be one of 15 spinning fanatics to take on the
challenge of a 100-mile Spinathon on March 7 at Bourton Leisure
Centre, Bourton-on-the-Water.
It will be headed by Nicki Banks, from Adventure Boot Camp,
Stratford-upon-Avon, who also instructs weekly spin classes at the
Leisure Centre.
Alex said: "It is a great form of aerobic activity, burning
between 400-600 calories in 40 minutes. We anticipate that the
event will take approximately five hours to complete.
"I am a gym enthusiast usually getting to three classes a week.
It is my keep fit routine, but this will really test me."
Ms Fair is a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and
works in Lodders' Agriculture Department.
Alastair is taking part in a 125-mile bike ride on March 13 from
Bishop's Cleeve and back via Hungerford and Chippenham.
"It could kill me," he joked. "I reach the big 4-0 on March 26
and this is my last gesture to youth. I am desperate to show that I
still have that something which I probably never had in the first
place."
Mr Frew is a partner in the real estate team, having joined from
Pinsent Masons in 2002.
The pair are raising money for charities Kate's Home Nursing and
Breathe Easy North Cotswold.
Kate's is a palliative care charity which provides nursing care
to terminally ill people who choose to spend the last weeks of
their lives in their own homes. It relies heavily on donations and
fundraising events and can be used by patients from Stow, Bourton,
Burford, Northleach and Moreton surgeries.
Breathe Easy North Cotswolds is a new group which has been set
up to support patients with lung conditions and those who care for
them. The group meet every third Wednesday of each month, from
2-4pm at the Baptist Church Rooms, Station Road,
Bourton-on-the-Water - for more information contact Charlotte
Joynes 01451 810520 .
The Spinathon organisers are Boody Dudfield, at Daisy Dix,
Stow-on-the-Wold (Tel: 01451 830808) and Jill Jeffrey, of Stow
Primary School.
Ms Dudfield said: "'We have had a fantastic response. Lloyds TSB
have very kindly donated £500 and shirts for the event, which
has been a brilliant start to our target of £5,000, which
will be split equally between both charities. Anyone interested in
supporting either please get in touch."
