Edwin Maxwell, managing director of Nottingham-based EAM
Building Group, and chair of the New Art Exchange in Hyson Green,
Nottingham, is to be presented with an MBE in recognition of his
services to the local community.
Maxwell has been actively involved in a wide variety of arts and
community projects for over 20 years, as well as running a
successful building company, which he established in 1983.
Originally operating as EAM Electrical, over the intervening
years Maxwell has grown the company into a general contracting
company providing a range of building services to public, private
and commercial clients.
As chair of the New Art Exchange, Maxwell was instrumental in
leading the project's successful bid for funding and was involved
at all stages of the development. From signing off initial
design concepts to the appointment of contractors and from on-going
project management to overseeing the construction programme,
Maxwell played a pivotal role in delivering the RIBA award-winning
centre.
The £5m project was funded by organisations including:
Arts Council England, Nottingham City Council, the Greater
Nottingham Partnership, East Midlands Development Agency, Radford
and Hyson Green New Deal for Communities, and European Regional
Development Funding.
As the chair of the arts centre Maxwell is now part of a dynamic
arts organisation whose objective is to become a national centre of
excellence promoting contemporary arts within the cultural and
creative industries.
Prior to becoming involved with the New Art Exchange Edwin's
community involvement included: setting up Excel; Chairman at EMACA
Visual Arts; Secretary of the West Indian Caribs Cricket Club;
Chairman of Carrington Sports & Recreation Centre Management
Committee; Midlands Regional Committee Member of the National
Federation of Builders (NFB), subsequently becoming President of
the NFB for the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Association;
Director of NECTA; Director of the Greater Nottingham Training
& Enterprise Council.
Commenting on his MBE, Edwin Maxwell said: "It is an honour to
have been recognised for the work that I have been involved in for
the last 20 years, but the success that I have been a part of is
really down to the fantastic team of people that I have had the
privilege to work alongside."
