Two former members of the US House of Representatives will be
debating contemporary American politics to an audience of students
and invited local policymakers at The University of Northampton's
Park Campus on Wednesday 3 February.
David Skaggs (Democrat of Colorado, 1987 - 1999) and Nick Smith
(Republican of Michigan, 1993 - 2005) will lead a panel of
distinguished speakers on topics such as the success to date of
President Obama's foreign policy, the party balance in Washington
and US Congress.
The free half-day conference for local students with an interest
in the subject is being held by the University's School of Social
Sciences, in association with the Eccles Centre for American
Studies at the British Library. Professor Philip Davies of the
Eccles Centre and academics from The University of Northampton will
also be contributing to the debate.
The School conference will be followed by a seminar at the
Sunley Management Centre for local policymakers and representatives
of the University's partner organisations.
David Waller, Senior Lecturer in American Politics, School of
Social Sciences, The University of Northampton,
commented: "Congress to Campus gives students and visitors a
unique opportunity to meet and debate with those who've actually
served in Washington and we are very glad to be able to welcome our
distinguished visitors to Northampton."
The event runs from 10am - 1pm in Holdenby Lecture Theatre 1,
Park Campus. For further information, please contact Karin Ferngren
