Staff at a Matlock hair and nail salon have proved they are head
and shoulders above the opposition by winning a window dressing
competition to encourage local businesses to engage in a
county-wide tourism promotion.
Sandra Spencer and her seven-strong team at Cut Above Hair and
Nail Design, Firs Parade, won first prize in a contest staged by
Visit Peak District & Derbyshire (VPD&D), the area's
official tourist board, as part of its Hallowe'en themed
'Spookyshire' promotion.
Their eye-catching entry - featuring a larger-than-life spider
and its web plus the official Spookyshire banner - captured the
attention of competition judges and landed a year's free on-line
advertising worth £300 on VPD&D's website,
www.visitpeakdistrict.com.
"We always try to create a topical or seasonal window display,
and thought VPD&D's competition was a fantastic way to promote
both the salon and Spookyshire," said Sandra, who launched the
business more than 20 years ago.
"We are very pleased to win, and hope that it encourages other
businesses to take part in future competitions, as well as making
them aware that regularly changing window displays reminds
customers that we are there."
Added David Thornton, Head of Marketing and Deputy Chief
Executive at VPD&D: "Working with local businesses to raise the
profile of Peak District & Derbyshire festivals and tourism
events is a key aspect of our work.
"We're delighted to be able to reward the team at Cut Above for
their help with our Spookyshire promotion, and I hope their success
will be an incentive for other businesses to join in our special
promotions throughout the year."
