Sinead Butters, Chief Executive of the Aspire Group, has been
appointed as a board member of the National Housing Federation, the
body which represents 1,200 not-for-profit housing associations in
England.
She will play a valuable role, helping to set the NHF's
strategic direction as it widens its breadth of skills and
experience following a recent governance review.
Sinead, a highly regarded housing professional, brings a wealth
of experience to the board. She is keen to share her experience of
tackling worklessness, and her knowledge of how lifelong learning
can help build sustainable communities.
"I am really excited to be joining the board of the National
Housing Federation at such a critical time," said Sinead.
"To represent our members, and support the continued
strengthening of the NHF as we work hard to ensure their voice is
heard, is a fantastic opportunity for me personally.
"Organisations like us exist to ensure a better deal for
communities. The starting point for us all is our customers, and
the service they receive."
Sinead, who was appointed Group Chief Executive of Aspire in
October 2006, oversaw its merger with PM Training - a social
enterprise that tackles worklessness among young people. It is
believed to be the largest social enterprise subsidiary of any UK
housing association.
She added: "Aspire Housing is working particularly hard to
ensure our activities create sustainable job opportunities for
local young people.
"Through PM Training, our social enterprise arm, we are already
reaching 1,000 disadvantaged young people every year. We are
getting them into work and changing their lives forever.
"The Federation has gone from strength to strength. We now need
to build upon this positive trajectory so the organisation, and our
members, are recognised for the impact they have on creating
sustainable places, where people can enjoy an excellent quality of
life."
Matthew Taylor, Chair of the NHF, said: "I am delighted that we
have been able to co-opt such a skilled and experienced housing
professional as Sinead. She will add immense value to the board,
and to the work of the federation as a whole."
Sinead has been co-opted to the board and will formally stand
for election at next year's AGM.
The Aspire Group provides more than 20,000 customers with
quality affordable homes and services across North Staffordshire
and South Cheshire.
Committed to improving homes and neighbourhoods, and
transforming the life chances of local people, it consists of
Aspire Housing, PM Training and a soon-to-be-launched
charity.
