British Olympic hopeful Kate Dennison's new car is definitely
poles apart from her previous one.
The 25-year-old pole vaulter has celebrated a highly successful
year by treating herself to a brand new Mercedes-Benz CLC-Class,
which has replaced her former, ageing R-reg model.
Kate, who has broken the national record nine times in an
eight-month period with a best vault of 4 metres 60 centimetres, is
delighted to be scaling new automotive heights with her stylish,
white two-door Coupé purchased from Mercedes-Benz of
Leicester.
"After finishing sixth in this year's World Championships in
Berlin, I thought it was time to make the step up in transport
terms as my previous little car was getting old and must have made
quite a sight with my 4.5-metre poles on the roof," said Kate, who
took up the sport less than three years ago after switching from
gymnastics.
"My dad Mark has always been a big fan of Mercedes-Benz, so I
knew they were great cars but as I've now discovered from my
enquiries very affordable too."
With a busy schedule of major competitions ahead in the run-up
to the 2012 Olympics in London, Kate's Mercedes-Benz will prove
invaluable as she travels around the country from her base at UK
Athletics' national performance centre at Loughborough University.
To assist her, Mercedes-Benz of Leicester has given her a
complimentary set of roof rails to carry her poles safely and
securely.
"2010 is a big year with the World Indoor Championships in
Qatar, the European Championships in Barcelona in July and the
Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October," continued Kate, who is
currently ranked 12th in the world. "I've succeeded in getting
myself established this year and I need that to continue over the
next 12 months as I chip away at my target of 4 metres 80, which
should be enough to medal in London."
Helen Key, Mercedes-Benz of Leicester's Business Development
Manager, said that Kate was certainly assured of gold medal
performance from her CLC.
"As the entry model into Mercedes-Benz's coupé range, the
CLC will provide Kate with superb economy and reliability but it is
also so comfortable to drive that she will arrive at competitions
completely refreshed and raring to go," added Helen. "We wish Kate
many miles of happy motoring and continued sporting success."
