and Kieran Scothern
Maintaining its commitment to internal growth and support of
new-entrants into the legal profession, Nottingham law firm
Berryman has retained all trainee solicitors completing their
training contracts and qualification at the firm.
Dinah King, Peter Aldred and Kieran Scothern joined Berryman's
training programme in 2007, and their retention by the firm
demonstrates the success of its trainee recruitment programme as
Training Principal and Partner at the firm, Stephen Robb
explains: "Berryman recruits its trainees for the long term
and future of the firm, based on its strategy that internal growth
and resourcing is in many instances, preferable to lateral
hires.
"Historically, the firm's trainee retention rate is very high,
and this year is no exception, as we retain all trainees on our
programme upon qualification."
Dinah King qualifies into Berryman's Commercial Contracts and
Intellectual Property team, assisting partner Ed Wright. She was an
Officer in the Canadian Air Force before moving to the UK and
commencing her legal studies. Dinah is currently on secondment to a
major defence contractor client, with whom she spent time as a
Trainee.
Peter Aldred qualifies into Berryman's Employment team headed by
partner Ginny Hallam, who first joined Berryman as a trainee in
2000, was promoted to Associate in 2005 and Partner and head of the
Employment team in 2007. Peter was educated in Nottingham and is a
Cambridge University BA Law graduate.
Kieran Scothern qualifies into Berryman's Reorganisation and
Recovery team, which was launched in 2006 to provide specialist
advice to insolvency practitioners, businesses, directors and
financial institutions on all aspects of administrations,
bankruptcies, receiverships and liquidations. The team, led by
corporate partner, Patrick Billyeald, has experienced significant
growth, reinforced by the retention of its first-ever trainee this
year to assist in the rise in caseload and instructions.
Stephen Robb comments: "Each of our trainees is qualifying into
very busy commercial teams. Their appointments are to newly created
posts, a fact which serves to demonstrate just how busy our
dedicated business services legal teams currently are, that there
are signs of improvement in the market, and that commercial
instructions continue to grow for Berryman, across the board."
