A specialist teenage cancer unit in Birmingham is to receive the
£1,533.82 raised at a charity golf day staged by a leading
firm of chartered surveyors and auctioneers in the city.
Sixteen teams entered the 2009 Bigwood Annual Charity Golf Day
at Edgbaston Golf Club and the winning team, Allied Irish Bank, was
given the opportunity of choosing the charity.
The AIB nominated the Maria Watt Birmingham Foundation, a
charity launched by bank employee Diane Watt in memory of her
daughter, who died of leukaemia in 2005.
Diane established the charity to fund research, raise awareness
of child and teenage cancer, fund a specialist teenage cancer unit
in Birmingham and also provide help and support for families,
carers and young cancer patients.
Bigwood managing director Rory Daly said: "It was a well
supported day with 16 teams of three golfers and we are delighted
at the choice made by members of the Allied Irish Bank team."
