A slice of British motoring history will come under the hammer
at a bumper residential auction in Birmingham this month.
A coach house at 45 Anderton Park Road, Moseley, Birmingham,
which has strong connections to early Jensen racing cars, is
included in the next Bigwood auction on Thursday December 10.
Brothers Richard and Allan Jensen built individual sports cars
on the Austin and then Standard chassis in the 1920s and early
30s.
Jensen historian Richard Calver explains: "At the time the first
Jensen special was built, the family was living around the corner
in Bloomfield Road and then moved to 95 Anderton Park
Road.
"Ron Horton, a friend of the Jensen family, was living at number
45 and used their special-bodied race cars for a few years, around
1932-35."
Bigwood director Jonathan Hackett said: "The coach house was
where Ron Horton prepared his racing cars and it will come under
the hammer on a guide price of £400,000 to £450,000 as
part of a substantial investment property.
"Planning permission was obtained to convert the coach house
into a dwelling in 1964 but this has lapsed. The entire
property stands in just over one quarter of an acre and is one of
many attractive lots.
"We hope the 92 lots to be sold at the Holte Suite, Villa Park
will be the best residential sale of 2009 to round off a successful
run of auctions."
In 2008 Bigwood and sister firm Bond Wolfe integrated their
sales and have since sold jointly over £35 million of
property.
Mr Hackett continued: "Each quarterly sale has seen an increase
in liquidity in the market and hopefully we will end the year on a
high."
"A vacant three-storey four-bedroom detached house in Blenheim
Road, Moseley, with a guide price of £200,000 to
£250,000 has already been viewed by more than 60 people.
"Another investment property attracting multiple viewings is an
end terrace two bedroom property close to the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital in Metchley Lane, Harborne with a guide price of
£125,000 to £135,000.
"Over 40 people have inspected a vacant end terrace property in
Broadyates Road, Yardley with three bedrooms, which has a guide
price of £65,000 to £70,000.
"Buyers looking for a smart address at a realistic price may
find it at Breeden Drive, Curdworth, in Sutton Coldfield.
"The semi-detached property stands back from the road behind a
driveway and front garden and has three bedrooms and an integrated
garage. There is an area at the side which could be suitable for an
extension subject to planning permission.
"It needs modernisation and has a guide price of £155,000
and £165,000.
"A well-equipped new build detached dormer bungalow in Sutton
Coldfield's Wylde Green with three bedrooms and two reception rooms
and set behind security gates has a guide price of £295,000
to £325,000.
"Investors looking for high yields will find a variety of
properties to choose from in this catalogue.
"A single bedroom leasehold flat in an apartment block at
Netheravon Close, Druids Heath is the pick of these with a guide
price is £48,000. It provides an income of £4,800
amounting to a 10 per cent yield.
"We expect ground rent sales to be buoyant and there are 10 lots
involving between one and four properties.
"Another lot involves 72 ground rents on properties at Highley,
Bridgnorth. These are yielding a gross annual profit of
£1,415. No guide price is given.
"We anticipate bargain hunters will be out in force and many
have looked at a leasehold ground floor apartment in a house
conversion in Warwick Road, Olton with a guide price of
£60,000.
