Five students from The University of Northampton have received
scholarships totalling £20,000 from the Santander
Universities scheme to support their studies.
The recipients represented Schools across the institution -
Maria Del Pilar Andrade Mejias, from Spain studying for a Master of
Business Administration (MBA), Diego Ramirez, a Brazilian BSc
Materials Technology student, Andres Cepero, studying BSc
computing, Mellina Aston, a PhD student in the School of Education
and Victor Jimenez, for his MA in Fine Art.
The University of Northampton is in the first year of an annual
agreement with Santander to support students from Iberamerican
linked universities studying here in Northampton. An additional
£30,000 in Santander funding is to be made available for
staff and students to facilitate academic study and research in
Iberamerican universities, through partnership programmes with
other Santander universities.
Debbie Greaves, Head of Development, The University of
Northampton, commented: "When the Development Office at the
University was created back in 2008 we were set the ambitious
target of raising £2 million in student scholarships. This
generous contribution from Santander Universities is a great step
on our way to that target.
"This year alone we have made a record number of over 50
scholarship awards, making a real difference to those fortunate
students. Until 2011 we also benefit from the Government matched
funding scheme which means that philanthropic gifts will go even
further."
