George Osborne will face questions on how a Conservative
government would tackle debt and unemployment at an event in
Birmingham on Friday (November 13).
The shadow chancellor will be attending a Tory "Get Britain
Working" session organised on their behalf by Birmingham Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (BCI). It takes place at Birmingham
Metropolitan College on the Matthew Boulton Campus at 1.15pm.
The session is a follow-up from the Get Britain Working
programme at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester and
David Willetts, shadow secretary of state for universities and
skills, will also speak. He will also take part in a question and
answer session.
Jerry Blackett, chief executive of the BCI, said: "In the run-up
to the General Election, it is crucial that Birmingham and
Solihull's businesses understand the policies of each party on the
issues that matter to our city and region.
"There is no greater challenge facing Birmingham and the West
Midlands than rising unemployment and we look forward to quizzing
two senior Conservatives."
At their conference the Tories set out a package of measures
designed to tackle the "twin crisis" of debt and unemployment
facing Britain today, described as a radical scheme to Get Britain
Working.
A Conservative spokesperson said: "The event is a chance for
people from Birmingham and the West Midlands to hear George Osborne
speak on the subject as well as having the opportunity to ask
questions during a substantial Q&A session."
