Rider Levett Bucknall has been crowned 'Top UK Employer' by
taking the top spot in The Telegraph sponsored Corporate Research
Foundation's 'Britain's Top Employers' table
The property and construction consultant beat off intense
competition from some heavyweight contenders including Lloyds
Banking Group, Friends of the Earth, GlaxoSmithKline, McDonald's,
The Co-operative Group and Oxfam to be awarded the prestigious
accolade.
Chairman of the firm, David Bucknall commented: "The fact
that Rider Levett Bucknall moved up from it 2nd place position last
year, is testament to the practice's avowed commitment to
ensuring that our workforce is continually motivated for the
benefit of all employees."
The judges commended Rider Levett Bucknall saying, "a strikingly
non-hierarchical atmosphere marks the working environment
here".
"No one, however senior, has their own office or parking space -
it's also policy that no one travels first-class," says operations
director Ann Bentley who is based at the firms' Birmingham
headquarters.
"Straight talking is championed", she adds, "both with clients -
which include supermarkets, the Prison Service and the Ministry of
Defence - and between staff."
Previously this year the firm was ranked 77th in the 2009 Sunday
Times Best 100 Companies to Work For.
It was the second consecutive year that the practice was listed
in the table after becoming eligible for entry in 2008.
