Monday 16th November starts Global Entrepreneurship Week, a
worldwide movement to encourage millions to change their dreams
into reality.
As experts claim the current recession is far from over, you
wouldn't think starting a business was the wisest course of action
for a working mum with a young family. However one local
enterprising business woman disagrees "I'm not going to let the
economic downturn spoil my dreams to run my own business" says
Barbara Steadman, Oswestry.
Barbara's light bulb moment came from a gift card she bought
whilst on holiday in Australia. The quotation written on the card
was so inspiring she felt it was more valuable to her than the card
itself.
Five years later she found herself needing to buy a wedding gift
for a friend and went shopping for a gift with meaningful words.
"I was disappointed as there seemed to be no quality gifts on
the market with sayings or quotations. That was when the idea for
Another Gorgeous Day was formed."
Both Barbara and her husband work during the day, so it's the
evening when she finds the time to get down to business. Her ever
growing product range, all have sayings, quotations and inspiring
words that make perfect gifts or accessories for loved ones, men
and women of any age.
When asked if her family helps out she said "Yes and they have
been brilliant. My Dad helped me with my show stand and setup my
store room with racking. My Mum is chief data input clerk for the
website. My sister keeps me focused and peps me up when I am having
a dark moment. Plus my husband stupidly said one night "is there
anything I can do to help"? The next day I enrolled him on a
photography course so he can take all the product shots. Most
importantly of all they all give me encouragement and are very
proud of what I am doing. They all now shop with me too."
As one of Britain's "Five to Niners" Barbara Steadman is showing
the world that anyone can find the time to start their own business
and anything is possible!
