Chelthenham based accountants, Smith Heath, have given their
support to a daredevil client who recently took part in a sponsored
parachute jump for charity.
Ian James is a director of Cinderford-based AIM Commercial
Catering Equipment Limited, a longstanding client of Smith
Heath's.
The jump took place at Netheravon airfield near Salisbury, home
of the Parachute Regiment's display team, the Red Devils. Ian was
joined by his sister Jayne Bonner and friend Darren Greene to take
part in the tandem skydive from 15,000ft.
All three were strapped to an experienced skydiver and reached
speeds of up to 120mph, before the instructor opened the parachute
at 5,000ft, allowing for a gentle five-minute glide back to the
landing area.
Around £5,500 has been raised for Cancer Research UK so
far, with more sponsorship money still to be collected.
Ian said: "I wouldn't say we were nervous beforehand but we were
certainly apprehensive because it's something you've got no control
over, and you're entirely in someone else's hands - but we all
agreed it was an amazing sensation and I'd recommend it to
anybody.
"I've had cancer three times, my father had it once and a cousin
of mine is currently suffering from it, which shows how important a
cause this is - cancer isn't discriminate, it can affect anyone,
and every penny that we can raise to try and beat it will be a real
help."
Tim Heath, director at Smith Heath, added: "We were delighted to
support Ian in his fundraising efforts - he chose a great way to
raise money for a very worthwhile cause, and we're delighted that
it went so well."
Ian is still collecting sponsorship through his website at
