Staff at a Birmingham business had got used to seeing one of
their own sporting a long ponytail, and Nathan Shiels had grown
quite attached to it as well.
Now it is no more, chopped off to make wigs for children who
have lost their hair through treatment for cancer as well as
alopecia.
The task of cutting off the pride and joy of BHSF helpdesk
assistant Nathan's hair went to his team leader Tracey Townsend, an
operation watched by staff and management alike.
Nathan took the drastic step to donate his hair to Optima Hair
in Birmingham which oversees the making of wigs for the Little
Princess Trust, providers of stylised and bespoke wigs made
out of real hair.
With matching funding from BHSF Nathan also raised £250
for the Trust, and said: "It feels a little strange, my ponytail
had been with me for some years but when it was suggested I cut it
off in its prime I jumped at the chance to help children with
cancer get through the stigma of losing their hair".
