On Wednesday 2nd December the Derby and Derbyshire Rail Forum
(DDRF) is hosting an Enabling Technology Event in conjunction with
Transport Innovation Network (iNet) from 10:30am-1:30pm at Nelsons
Solicitors Offices in Nottingham.
The free event will focus on new innovative technologies
developed within the rail industry, with presentations from
industry professionals across. The event is open to all and
will be of particular interest to small and medium sized transport
businesses, engineers and manufacturers within the rail
industry.
Guest speakers will include Professor Andrew McNaughton from
HS2, who will be championing high speed rail technologies as a
viable transport alternative. Dr Anas Yaghi from the Department of
Mechanical Engineering at Nottingham University shall be assessing
power generation plant components and, Francis How, the Technical
Director from the Railway Industry Association, will offer an
overview of enabling innovation technologies within the rail
industry.
John Frodsham, Project Director of the Transport iNet, said:
"The Enabling Technology Event will highlight some of the key
industry-specific issues around innovation. Attendees of this event
will learn how rail system technology development can generate
opportunities to shift transport demand from both air and road onto
rail networks, and in doing so, support economic growth and
contribute to a greener environment, by reducing carbon emissions.
The event will include an example to illustrate successful
collaborative research and the role of industrial and academic
partners. Delegates will also have the chance to look at making
their own businesses more innovative by seeking free support from
the Transport iNet innovation advisors by exploring new
initiatives, such as Innovation Support Grants (ISG's) of up to
£10,000."
The Transport iNet, which is based at Loughborough University,
is funded by East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and the
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The aim of the iNet is
to share expertise and stimulate the research and development of
new products, services and processes across the five transport
sectors, rail, marine, automotive, motorsport and aerospace.
