Monday 16 November sees the launch of a brand new initiative
aimed to promote the benefit of smarter working within the public
and private sector.
Smarter Working West Midlands is a programme funded by the
Regional Development Agency and managed by Coventry University
Enterprises Ltd (CUE Ltd)
The aim of the scheme is to help organisations in the West
Midlands to adopt smarter working practices which will in turn help
to monitor and evaluate their reduction in C02 emissions.
This will be done through a series of seminars, events and
workshops with the long-term aim of helping to change the way an
organization operates in order to help them reduce their carbon
emissions but at the same time, raise their productivity
levels.
Tim Luft, Programme Director at CUE Ltd said: "There are a
number of initiatives under the smarter working banner that we will
be offering to businesses. Over the next few months, we will be
working closely with Chambers of Commerce throughout the West
Midlands to provide one-day workshops on how smarter working could
assist businesses in the region.
"We are also in the process of developing a 'carbon calculator'
for businesses to use to see where they could be more efficient and
make the best use of space and will be using our research expertise
to work with businesses in helping them to look at ways of
reversing their carbon footprint."
Coventry University Enterprises Ltd will be offering this
service to businesses in future and maybe rolling it out as a
nation-wide initiative.
Tim Luft added: "Obviously, as we are a commercial
enterprise, we need to generate income by getting businesses to buy
in this service but what they spend now will prove to be a wise
investment when they see how much they can save in the long
term."
The launch and the seminar will be opened by Frank Mills,
Chairman of CUE Ltd and takes place at The Maple House, 150
Corporation Street, Birmingham, B4 6TB.
The launch is followed by a half-day seminar which will include
listening to representatives of companies that have already
discovered what a difference smarter working made to their
output.
Companies taking part in the launch include BT, NHS Direct,
Business Link and ACAS.
