With 60% of small businesses starting from home and 2.5 million
businesses being run from home, home enterprise is fast becoming a
great way to start your business.
People who are thinking about starting a home business will be
able to talk to successful home entrepreneurs and business support
agencies at the Business Begins At Home event at Nottingham's Trent
FM Arena on Home Enterprise Day (Friday 20 November), during Global
Entrepreneurship Week.
Organised by Unleashing Enterprise (the East Midlands
Development Agency (emda) supported enterprise programme) and
Nottingham City Council, in partnership with Nottingham Business
Venture (NBV) and The Prince's Trust, the event will provide
information, guidance and advice for those thinking about setting
up a business at home.
Chris Shaw, Regional Manager for Unleashing Enterprise, said:
"Starting a business at home can be a great way of tackling
concerns about work-life balance and economic pressures. It's often
the best option to allow people to start slowly but build quickly,
particularly in a recession.
Unleashing Enterprise aims to help people find the information
and inspiration they need to help them to do something that they
love and make it pay and this event will be a great starting point
to help people find out how if starting a home business is right
for them, how they can develop their ideas and access the support
that's available in the region."
Home entrepreneurs including Lisa Warner of Fink Cards and Jason
Young of Open Construction Ltd will talk about their experiences of
home business and offer advice to participants.
Lisa designs conversation cards to encourage interaction at
family mealtimes. She said, "I have been a stay at home mum for
almost all of my adult life, but three years ago me and my husband
bought a business from a neighbour and that experience gave me the
confidence to start my own business doing something that I was
passionate about.
"I started Fink with a very small amount of money, but with a
massive vision and it has been an amazing first year in
business."
Delegates will be able to take part in four workshops: Is It For
Me?; How To Develop A Business Idea; Access to Finance; and Online
Marketing For Beginners.
Information points will be provided by Enterprise Nation, NBV,
The Prince's Trust, First Enterprise Business Agency , HMRC ,
Bizignition, Smith Cooper Accountants and PRIME.
Business At Home will run from 9.30 am - 12.30 pm and is free to
attend. For more information on the event and to register contact
