DERWENT Living is celebrating after being shortlisted for three
national awards.
The Derby-based housing provider has been shortlisted for two
national housing awards - the Sustainable Housing Awards and the UK
Housing Awards as well as The Guardian newspaper's National Public
Service Awards.
Derwent Living's Mr Lightbulb scheme was the project nominated
for the Sustainable Housing Awards, whilst the Butterfly Project
was put forward for both the UK Housing Awards and The Guardian
Public Service Awards.
Derwent Living appointed Trevor Price, aka 'Mr Lightbulb' in
2008 to fit energy saving lightbulbs to thousands of its properties
across the Midlands and has been shortlisted for the 'Energy Saving
Initiative of the Year'.
The Butterfly Project is an initiative that is run by Derwent
Living's women's refuge. It is a new service for victims of
domestic violence that will be able to accommodate women who need
help with problems such as mental health issues, alcohol abuse and
substance misuse. It has been shortlisted in the 'Complex Needs'
category of The Guardian awards and the 'Meeting the Needs of
Vulnerable People' category of the UK Housing Awards.
The winners of all three awards will be announced at ceremonies
that will be held in London over the next few months.
Peter McCormack, chief executive of Derwent Living, says: "We
are extremely proud to have been shortlisted for these high profile
awards. We are pleased that the work we are doing is being
recognised on a national scale. Both Mr Lightbulb and The Butterfly
Project are hugely important projects and should be recognised for
being unique and for helping both our residents and people in the
wider community.
"Whilst we are looking forward to finding out if we have won at
the ceremonies, we feel it is a tremendous achievement to have made
it to the final stages of the awards out of the hundreds of entries
from across the UK."
