Bike riders from Mansell Construction Services have pedalled
their way to a charity bonanza and donated more than £17,000
to Cancer Support Dudley.
The team from Mansell's Stourbridge-based Western region raised
the cash by taking part in the company's national relay race from
Elgin in Scotland to London. The Stourbridge team cycled 53 miles
from Moreton Corbett in Shropshire to Lichfield where they handed
over to colleagues for the next leg of the journey.
That achievement, combined with other fund raising efforts by
Mansell staff including a dragon boat race, and It's a Knockout
event, dress-down days, charity walks and selling hand made
greetings cards, meant that Cancer Support Dudley was presented
with a cheque for £17,500. The cash was handed over to Cancer
Support manager Chris Barron by Steve Oldacre, Leanne Geary and
Andy Floyd of Mansell.
Chris Barron said, "We are really grateful for this wonderful
amount raised by Mansell and very impressed by the efforts of their
staff. All of the money raised for Cancer Support goes towards
providing emotional support and practical help to cancer patients
and their carers. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary it's
heartening to know that local people are still supporting worthy
causes."
As part of a year-long fund-raising drive to mark the company's
100th anniversary, Mansell's charity fund raising efforts raised
more than £66,000 in 2008. As well as Cancer Support Dudley,
money has been handed over to BID Services, Macmillan Cancer
Support, Mary Stevens Hospice and the Fire Fighters
Charity.
