A Lecturer in American Politics at The University of Northampton
will reflect upon the record to date of the Obama Administration at
a public lecture this week, addressing in particular the popular
expectation that President Obama would rapidly bring about
transformative change in the US.
David Waller, School of Social Sciences, will speak on
'President Obama and the Myth of the First Hundred Days' at 7:30pm
on Thursday 5 November, Holdenby Lecture Theatre 2, Park Campus.
Entry is free and all are welcome to this event hosted by the
Northampton branch of the Historical Association.
David Waller commented: "Ever since the reforming
administration of Franklin Roosevelt in the 1930s, there has been a
tendency to evaluate American Presidents by how much they achieved
in their first hundred days.
"As the United States faces the worst economic crisis since the
Great Depression, it is worth asking whether this is true and if
the great expectations Obama generated ahead of his election have
actually made the job of government harder."
