Four staff at a care home in Oswestry are celebrating gaining NVQ qualifications, with County Training.

Tracy Groves, Sarah Owen, Taryn O'Donoghue and Nawaz Lewis, who all work full time at Llysfields Nursing Home, approached County Training, part of Shropshire Council, in 2008, wishing to develop their skills to provide better service and enhance their career prospects. They went on to work towards NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care, which all have now completed.

All of the staff who have achieved their qualifications work as care assistants, providing care to clients of different abilities, and supporting other staff.

Sharon Dellow, Manager at Llysfields Nursing Home, commented " The training provided by County Training has been invaluable to our team here. Their has been a noticeable increase in the confidence and motivation of the staff. Their roles involve working with a wide range of individuals and this qualification has increased their knowledge in how to deal with different situations. A number of other staff have also been motivated by seeing their colleagues gain qualifications and some have started doing their NVQs too."

Some staff have now gone on to promotion following completion of their qualifications, and a number of those members of staff who completed their Level 3 qualifications are now also working towards compelting a Team Leader NVQ qualification.

There are seven other members of staff at Llysfield who are currently working towards qualifications with County Training. Four employees are undertaking their NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, whilst three more are doing their Leadership and Management Qualification. Home Manager, Sharon Dellow greatly appreciates the importance of continuing development for all of her employees, including herself, and is therefore going to be undertaking her A1 Assessors Award and the L20 Support Competence Achieved in the Workplace Qualification.

NVQs are qualifications which demonstrate ability at work. The training is mainly on the job and NVQ assessment recognises an individual's performance at work with a nationally recognised qualification. County Training has wide experience in the delivery of NVQ's in various different areas including Advice and Guidance, Business and Administration, Childcare, Customer Service, Distribution, Warehousing and Storage, Hairdressing and Barbering, Health and Social Care, Hospitality and Catering, IT,  Management, Plant Operations, Sales and Telesales.

Llysfield Nursing Home is a private nursing home who deal with various areas of specialist care, including Cancer Care, epilepsy, hearing/speech impairment, neuropathic, orthopaedic, Parkinson's Disease, stroke and visual Impairment.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Portfolio Holder of Culture and Leisure commented "County Training work closely with employers all over Shropshire to provide training and to help their staff gain qualifications that can make a large difference to the ways in which they work within their job role. There is a variety of NVQ's available which can support a wide range of businesses."
