The University of Northampton's School of Education has the best
record for newly-trained primary teachers in securing teaching
posts through their PGCE primary programme, according to the Good
Teacher Training Guide 2009.
Within six months (based on 2008 figures) of gaining qualified
teacher status (QTS) from The University of Northampton, an
impressive 92% of trainees were successful in gaining employment as
a teacher. Additionally, the Guide ranks Northampton 7th in its
provision of primary Initial Teacher Training (ITT).
Joanna Moxham, Head of ITT, School of Education,
commented: "We are delighted by the statistics which reflect
the hard work and professional qualities of our students and the
commitment of our University and School-based tutors to the future
of primary education.
"We believe our graduates will be in a strong position to
continue to be successful in the current employment situation."
The Good Teacher Training Guide 2009 is compiled by the Centre
for Education and Employment Research at the University of
Buckingham, and compares teacher training providers in terms of
their intakes, Ofsted ratings and trainees' take-up of teaching
posts.
