Complete Group is celebrating after being voted Nurse of the Year
at the Shropshire Partners in Care (SPIC) Awards.
Clinical nurse specialist Sue McCarthy who lives in Cressage,
near Shrewsbury, was named as the overall winner of the title at a
ceremony on Friday (11 September) at Shrewsbury Town's Prostar
Stadium.
The awards - now in their third year - are designed to recognise
the efforts of care organisations and individuals who work hard to
support vulnerable and needy residents in the county.
Sue, 42, has worked for The Complete Group, based in Telford,
for almost five years, where she started as a nurse team leader,
before being promoted to her current role a year later.
She is now responsible for overseeing the Complete Group's team
of personal assistants and nurses who work with clients - including
people with spinal and brain injuries. Sue is responsible for
training the Personal Assistants in clinical competencies.
Sue said: "It was only a couple of weeks before the ceremony
that they told me I had been nominated and shortlisted and it was a
complete shock - I was very honoured but it was totally
unexpected.
"I'd not even thought about winning - I was more than happy just
to be there and on the shortlist, and when they said my name it was
a real bolt from the blue, but of course I was delighted.
"I really enjoy working for Complete, and getting to meet such a
variety of different, interesting people, both in terms of the
clients and our own staff who do a fantastic job and cover a great
range of backgrounds and personalities. The job is always varied
and no two days are the same."
Complete Group clinical director Sheila Bowden had nominated Sue
for the award, and provided the judge with information about Sue
and testimonials from clients and colleagues on the high standard
of her work.
Sheila added: "Sue has been a valued member of staff at the
Complete Group for a number of years now, and fully deserves this
award. We are all delighted for her."
The Complete Group also made the final shortlist for the Care
Business of the Year award at the event.
