NOTTS-based Frontline recruitment has donated £250 to the
John Lewis Distribution Runners, for completing the Robin Hood half
marathon.
The recruitment firm, which provides temporary and permanent
labour to the distribution centre, has donated the money to the
group of 16 runners who are based at the Arnold Distribution Depot.
The group successfully completed the marathon in times ranging from
just under two hours to just over three.
In total the group has raised £2500 for charity and
instead of donating the money to one good cause, it will be split
between charities of each of the runners' choice. Charities
that will benefit include Macmillan Cancer Support, Nottingham
Autism, Nottingham Royal Society for the Deaf and the Stillborn
& Neonatal Death Charity.
Frontline has worked with John Lewis for two years and in this
time has built up good ties with the company. Jason Jones
operations director at Frontline, said: "As we have worked closely
with John Lewis for a number of years now, we were keen to show our
support when they approached us about supporting them to take part
in the marathon. The staff at Frontline rallied round and we were
able to give them £250, which will hopefully give them a
boost to the final amount raised."
John Lewis is currently running a 'Partners in Sport'
initiative, a programme designed to improve the health and fitness
of employees across the group during the lead up to the 2012
Olympics.
Ted Dexter, is a delivery porter at John Lewis and the organiser
of the running team. Ted, who is 54, hasn't run the half marathon
for five years. He completed the race in 1 hour and 57 minutes. He
said: "We are really pleased with the support from Frontline. This
is the first time that we have done anything like this, we're not a
sporty bunch, so it's a really achievement that we all finished in
good time and it's good to know that we have the support from
associates to help to raise money for charity."
