An organisation that provides help and support for lifescience
firms in the East Midlands is planning to expand its range of
services after recruiting its first corporate sponsor.
Based at BioCity in Nottingham, Medilink East Midlands already
delivers a wide range of events as well as providing access to a
network of expertise to encourage partnership working, investment
and trade.
Now Nottingham-based law firm Berryman has demonstrated its
commitment to the work of Medilink by becoming the organisation's
first corporate sponsor.
According to Scott Farnsworth, a Partner at Berryman, the
healthcare and bioscience sector is playing an increasingly
important role in the regional economy and the firm has developed
its own specialist team to provide legal advice to lifescience
businesses.
"Across the East Midlands, medical technology companies employ
19,000 people, with a further 12,000 employed in life sciences," he
explained.
"These emerging, innovative sectors set the East Midlands apart
from other areas in the UK, and present numerous opportunities for
the region, including employment and economic sustainability."
For many years Berryman - which offers a broad spectrum of legal
services to both businesses and individuals, with a focus on
intellectual property law matters - has been an active supporter of
the sector and has enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial
relationship with Medilink.
"Our specialist lawyers have often acted as keynote speakers at
the organisation's events and we are delighted to be able to
continue our support for innovation in the region by becoming a
corporate sponsor of Medilink," added Scott.
Commented Dr Darren Clark, Medilink's Chief Executive: "I would
like to thank Berryman for their continued support through the
corporate sponsorship scheme, which is important to the future
success of Medilink. We value Berryman's expertise in a number of
areas, including intellectual property and other issues relating to
commercial law.
"Sponsorship enables us to provide value-added services and we
are delighted that all our members will be able to receive an
initial free consultation from a firm with such expertise in our
sector.
"Over the coming months we are looking to introduce other
corporate sponsors, offering our members a whole range of
professional service benefits."
