FORMER world boxing champion Nigel Benn will be pulling no
punches when he visits Derby on Saturday to promote a city
entrepreneur's new clothing label.
Nigel, known for his fearless attitude in the ring, will model
clothes at the Westfield Centre brought out by Roy Smoothe who
hopes the range will also portray a positive
message. Inspirational businessman Roy develops concepts that
help people to dream, unlock and maximise their potential.
Roy, who previously worked in the menswear business, has come up
with the Just Cool brand of urban street and designer clothes for
men and women, from teenagers to the more image-conscious adults,
which is tagged Designed in Heaven, Made on Earth.
Initially, the range will include t-shirts, long-sleeved tops,
and hooded tops, plus accessories. A jeans collection is already
under development. The brand has been designed by Roy and printed
in Nottingham.
Roy hopes to encourage young people to follow the mindset of
sporting and celebrity role models and to inspire them to believe
they too can be successful and achieve their dreams. He hopes they
will think it is 'cool' to wear his range and be positive.
With only three years to the London Olympics, Roy, who talks to
schools and businesses on the Just Cool concept, hopes that young
people will develop a winning mindset.
"Nigel Benn has that winning mindset which is what I am
promoting with Just Cool," said Roy.
Roy has acted as a consultant on speaking engagements for Nigel
Benn who has become a family friend. Nigel, who retired in
1996 after winning the world middle and super-middle weight titles,
later appeared in I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Fans will be able to see Nigel at Westfield Centre near the food
court on the upper floor between 3pm-4pm. They will be
able to buy merchandise from the new range and have Nigel's
autograph, with a percentage of funds going to a charity nominated
by Westfield. Alternatively, they can pay to have a photo with
Nigel, again with some proceeds going to charity.
Nigel will be appearing at stockist Charlie Brown's and doing a
photo shoot at Gloria Jeans coffee house.
After the preview promotion in Derby Roy hopes to launch
nationally next year, pushing his range and concept in big stores
and independent specialists.
He plans to visit America - where he has a strong following in
the personal development market - to launch the brand there, then
globally.
Roy developed Smoothe Mixx, using high technology and specially
recorded music mixed with the spoken word to produce powerful
motivational and business audios that enable people to absorb and
remember information.
He recently launched in America a Smoothe Mixx version of The
Yes Movie, which features 35 young multi-millionaire
entrepreneurs who made their fortunes before they were 30. This
will be premiered in the UK in London next month.
He is a member of the council British Olympic Association's Team
2012 Appeals Committee that is trying to raise money to support
athletes for the Games.
Roy will be bringing Nigel Benn, a devout Christian, back to
Derby on October 10 for a black tie event at the Riverside Centre
in Pride Park to raise money for local charities.
