L to R: Chris Smith (Challinors), Tamara Bolger (Head of
Fundraising, Focus Birmingham), Charlotte Wetton (Challinors'
Training Officer) and Richard Shaw, (an Associate in Challinors'
Personal Injury department), digging to revitalise Focus
Birmingham's garden at its Elizabeth Gunn Centre on Woodville Road
in Harborne.
Staff from Midlands law firm Challinors donned wellies and
gardening gloves and swapped PCs and mobiles for spades and
secateurs to give the garden at the Harborne day centre of local
charity Focus Birmingham a makeover.
Representatives of Challinors' Charity Committee, Richard Shaw,
an Associate in the Personal Injury department, Chris Smith, and
the firms' Training Officer Charlotte Wetton spent a day
revitalising Focus Birmingham's garden at its Elizabeth Gunn Centre
on Woodville Road in Harborne.
Tamara Bolger, Head of Fundraising for Focus Birmingham
explained: "The charity, based in Harborne, supports children and
adults who have visual impairments and other disabilities in order
to allow them to lead a more fulfilling and independent life, by
offering facilities including the day centre in Harborne, two
residential homes and teams of Rehabilitation and Community
workers.
"The gardens at our Elizabeth Gunn Centre provide an invaluable
outdoor space for all our service users. Our team of staff and
volunteers do its best to keep on top of maintaining the garden
areas, but time doesn't always make this possible. We were
therefore especially pleased when Challinors team offered to spend
a day tidying the garden and planting some of the areas to make the
most of the space for our service users."
She adds: "We are delighted and grateful that Challinors has
continued to support Focus Birmingham once again this year, the
second consecutive year. The firm's staff have not only volunteered
their time to help us practically in this way, but have also worked
hard to raise as much money as possible through fundraising quiz
nights, a punk night and even running marathons!"
Sarah Corser, an Associate in Challinors' Clinical Negligence
team and a member of the Charity Committee explains: "Challinors'
Charity Committee involves Partners, fee earners and support staff.
We appreciate that fundraising for Focus Birmingham is vital to it
continuing to provide their amazing support and services for the
city's visually impaired, but that sometimes it is time and
practical help that is in order, which is what led us to suggest
this garden makeover."
Focus Birmingham's services are currently used by more than 3000
individuals each month and are reaching out to support an estimated
30,000 visually impaired in Birmingham. "We warmly welcome other
local companies to get involved and raise much needed funds for the
charity, and have fun at the same time!" says Tamara.
