Stuart Byrne, 21, from Broseley, had been out of work for over a
year, facing a number of barriers which prevented him from getting
back into work.
Stuart said "I had been experiencing substance and drink mis-use
problems and had been made homeless a number of times, having spent
a lot of my life in social care. I was really keen to find work to
make a difference to my life."
Stuart was referred to County Training, part of Shropshire
Council, by Jobcentre Plus in June 2009 on a Full Time Employment
Training programme.
During his time with County Training, Stuart also received help
with his literacy and numeracy and was supported in writing his CV.
The programme also assists with such things as job search skills
and interview skills.
In September 2009, Stuart found a vacant position as a Trainee
Welder at a company called Syspal ltd in Telford, who produce
aluminium and stainless steel products for the food,
pharmaceutical, leisure and health industries, and was successful,
starting work only a few weeks later.
Ian Park, Employment Officer at County Training, commented
"Stuart has shown great character and determination to turn his
life around. He worked very hard during his time at County Training
and his work paid off with a job in a respected industry."
Stuart said "I have not only found work but have also found a
home through Wrekin Housing Trust. My life has changed so much
thanks to the help and support I have been given from County
Training. I am now also training to become a welder which I'm
really enjoying."
County Training, the largest training provider in Shropshire,
has a vast experience of working with unemployed adults and moving
them into work and can assist individuals throughout the
county.
Councillor Steve Charmley, Portfolio Holder for Culture and
Leisure, commented "County Training helps many people with a number
of complex barriers to work to change their lives. They not only
assist with job search and into work skills, but can also help with
literacy and numeracy, which are skills that can be applied to all
parts of your life."
