Friday 11 September saw the annual Shropshire Care Awards at the
ProStar Stadium, in Shrewsbury. This is the third successful year
of the prestigious black tie event which is organised
on behalf of Shropshire Partners in Care to recognise staff and
care companies who work so hard to support some of the most
vulnerable in the county.
County Training work with care homes and their staff
across Shropshire delivering NVQs and apprenticeships in
Health & Social Care. They were delighted that so many of
the homes they work with have done so well, demostrating their hard
work and commitment to the industry.
Allcare Shropshire Ltd, who work accross the region won a host
of awards, with care assistant Margret Thomson winning Carer of the
Year in Domiciliary Care, while colleague Alexandra Turner, won
Care Ambassador of the Year, Allcare also won the overall
Client Satisfaction Award - a testament to the high quality
service they provide to their residents.
Kim Walshaw, from Adelphi Care Services completed her NVQ Level
4 with County Training earlier this year, and her hard work really
paid off - as she scooped the award for Manager of the
Year . While Henra House, in Ludlow came away with the big award of
the evening - Care Business of the Year.
Gill Thelwell, Curriculum Manager at County Training, part of
Shropshire Council commented: " Working in the care sector can be a
demanding and challenging career, but it can also be very rewarding
and these awards recognise the work that all care staff do, and
that their efforts are valued and appreciated by others".
On the night awards were hosted by the BBC's Jim Hawkins and
were open to all members of Shropshire Partners in Care and their
employees. Nominations were received from those receiving
care, their families, care professionals and organisations involved
in providing care services.
Owner of Hendra House, Vince Burmingham said " We are
really proud of all of our staff and the work they have done which
has allowed us to win Care Business Of the Year. Our investment in
staff training and development, especially that facilitated by
County Training has been a major factor in winning this Awards and
more importantly is reflected in the quality of service delivered
to our residents.
Councillor Steven Charmley commented "Caring is a very worthwile
career. The dedication and professionalism of all care staff both
locally and nationally make a signifigant different to the quality
of live enjoyed by those they care for, especially those with
increasing dependancy levels. As Social Care & Health
comprises the largest occupational group (10.3%) of the county's
workforce, upskilling the workforce with vocational qualifications
is vitally important for the sustainability of the industry".

wanting to embark on a career in the care sector through an

County Training is a unit of Shropshire Council. Established for
over 20 years it is Shropshire's largest training provider with
over 3,000 learners. It has seven training centres throughout the
