County Training Learners from across Shropshire are celebrating having won prestigious honours at the Shropshire Care Awards 2009.

Friday 11 September saw the annual Shropshire Care Awards at the ProStar Stadium, in Shrewsbury. This is the third successful year of the  prestigious black tie event which  is organised on behalf of Shropshire Partners in Care to recognise staff and care companies who work so hard to support some of the most vulnerable in the county.

County Training work with care homes and their staff  across Shropshire delivering NVQs and apprenticeships in Health & Social Care. They  were delighted that so many of the homes they work with have done so well, demostrating their hard work and commitment to the industry.

Allcare Shropshire Ltd, who work accross the region won a host of awards, with care assistant Margret Thomson winning Carer of the Year in Domiciliary Care, while colleague Alexandra Turner, won Care Ambassador of the Year,  Allcare also won the overall  Client Satisfaction Award - a testament to the high quality service they provide to their residents.

Kim Walshaw, from Adelphi Care Services completed her NVQ Level 4 with County Training earlier this year, and her hard work really paid off  - as she  scooped the award for Manager of the Year . While Henra House, in Ludlow came away with the big award of the evening -  Care Business of the Year.

Gill Thelwell, Curriculum Manager at County Training, part of Shropshire Council commented: " Working in the care sector can be a demanding and challenging career, but it can also be very rewarding and these awards recognise the work that all care staff do, and that their efforts are valued and appreciated by others".

On the night awards were hosted by the BBC's Jim Hawkins and were open to all members of Shropshire Partners in Care and their employees.  Nominations were received from those receiving care, their families, care professionals and organisations involved in providing care services.

Owner of Hendra House, Vince Burmingham said  " We are really proud of all of our staff and the work they have done which has allowed us to win Care Business Of the Year. Our investment in staff training and development, especially that facilitated by County Training has been a major factor in winning this Awards and more importantly is reflected in the quality of service delivered to our residents.

Councillor Steven Charmley commented "Caring is a very worthwile career. The dedication and professionalism of all care staff both locally and nationally make a signifigant different to the quality of live enjoyed by those they care for, especially those with increasing dependancy levels.  As Social Care & Health comprises the largest occupational group (10.3%) of the county's workforce, upskilling the workforce with vocational qualifications is vitally important for the sustainability of the industry".

County Training currently has funding for 16 - 18 year olds wanting to embark on a career in the care sector through an apprenticeship. For more information on Apprenticeships or Training within the Heath and Social Care Training, please call County Training on 01743 255191.
