Solihull Chamber of Commerce is urging businesses to attend
talks with a local MP on proposals for bringing a high speed rail
line (HS2) to serve the Borough of Solihull.
HS2, linking London with the West Midlands, is likely to become
a reality within a decade, providing potential benefits for
Solihull. Eurostar and Virgin Trains have both shown an
interest in running direct trains from Birmingham to Europe, which
could mean rail journeys to Paris and Brussels in just three
hours.
Birmingham International Airport has launched a letter-writing
campaign to push the case for a high speed rail link direct to the
airport and National Exhibition Centre. It has asked business
partners to make their views known to a government inquiry.
Solihull Chamber director Jane Jackson said: "Time is running
out to influence the route because preliminary recommendations are
expected in September with final finalisation before the end of the
year."
Caroline Spelman MP will be outlining proposals and discussing
what businesses can do to help bring HS2 to serve the borough.
The event takes places on Tuesday, September 8, at 5.30pm at a
venue to be announced in Birmingham Business Park. To book
