Mercedes vans join the chain gang

Pedal power… Bicycle Sales Director Gary Mather, with one of Moore Large & Co's new Mercedes Vito vans

One of the UK's leading distributors of cycles, scooters and accessories has turned to Mercedes-Benz to help drive its business forward.

Derby-based Moore Large & Co put city dealer Mertrux firmly in the frame when it ordered five Mercedes Vito 111CDIs and a larger Sprinter 313CDI.

All are the subject of three-year contract hire deals that include full repair and maintenance cover with Mercedes-Benz CharterWay, the manufacturer's in-house commercial vehicle finance and fleet management arm.

Established more than 30 years ago, Moore Large & Co is a family-owned company that prides itself on its comprehensive and diverse product range, its track record of design innovation and its solid reputation throughout the cycle industry.

The Extra Long Vitos are used by its field sales executives, who travel up to 30,000 miles a year visiting trade customers across the UK. Each has been fitted with a second row of seats and integrated bulkhead by CoTrim, of Salisbury, and is capable of transporting up to five people.

Yet unlike the estate cars they have replaced, the 2.7-tonne Vitos can also accommodate fully assembled bikes, as well as the equipment needed for setting up promotional displays.

Extras include colour-coded bumpers, air-conditioning, privacy glass and 'comfort' seats for driver and front passenger.

"Our field sales team are delighted with their new Mercedes," declares Bicycle Sales Director Gary Mather. "They make the perfect business tool and are easy vehicles to handle. Their stylish looks and passenger carrying capacity also make them ideal family vehicles."

The Sprinter 313CDI Extra Long is operating alongside another Sprinter bought a decade ago from Mertrux. Serviced by the dealer ever since, this vehicle has now clocked up more than 250,000 trouble-free miles.

The two 3.5-tonne vans are used to make local deliveries from Moore Large & Co's headquarters at Sinfin Lane Industrial Estate, Derby; customers further afield are serviced by an independent carrier.

The company's new Mercedes are powered by smooth and clean common-rail diesel engines. Backed by market leading, three-year unlimited mileage warranties, they also bristle with safety features, including the latest Adaptive version of the ESP® anti-skid system, which dynamically monitors the vehicle's load status while it is on the move.

"We are delighted with our new Mercedes vans and with the service we've had from Mertrux vans sales executive Frank Murray and his after sales colleagues," adds Mr Mather.
