homes at Weaklands Crescent
Contractor and developer, William Davis Limited joined with
local dignitaries, project partners and residents recently, to
celebrate the completion of the first phase of a £135m
housing regeneration scheme in Sheffield.
The initial £5m phase at the Weaklands estate in South
East Sheffield, a partnership project with affordable housing
provider, Home Group, Sheffield City Council and the Homes &
Communities Agency (HCA), has created 45 two, three and four bed,
high quality new homes, together with community gardens and
landscaped areas. The new development will form part of an overall
£135m regeneration project in the area.
Designed by Sheffield-based architect AA Design Ltd, the new
homes on Weaklands Crescent have provided a mix of homes for
outright sale, shared ownership and social rent and have replaced
30 unsustainable 1960 prefabricated properties on the site.
As specialists in the provision of social housing,
Loughborough-based William Davis Ltd is expert in regeneration
projects of this nature and has been involved at every stage of the
project, including taking into account the needs of the local
community as a whole.
Sharing afternoon tea with the guests Guy Higgins, managing
director, William Davis Ltd said: "The transformation of Weaklands
Crescent has been a great success and is an exciting pre-curser to
the overall regeneration of the area. The new design of the
development not only addresses problems of the previous layout and
conditions of the original homes but it has also retained and
reinforced the strong sense of community which is clearly
demonstrated at today's event."
