Coventry University's Lanchester Library has become one of the
first Libraries in the UK to be re-accredited under Investors in
People*'s new extended framework, putting it in the top 2% of their
associated organisations.
The Library has been an Investor in People organisation since
1999, demonstrating continued investment in and development of
staff in order to improve performance however now, a change to the
assessment framework this year has given them an opportunity to
gain further recognition.
Being recognized as an 'Investor in People' demonstrates that
the Library is working to a nationally agreed Standard. This is
critical in continuing the success of the business, managing change
effectively and improving overall performance.
The Library is assessed at three yearly intervals against
criteria on the Standard. The assessment is conducted by an
independent assessor who interviews staff to determine how far the
organization has integrated elements from the Standard into its
everyday operation. Elements from the standard include;
Strategic Planning, Developing People; Managing Performance;
Culture and Communication; Employee engagement.
In addition to the core 39 evidence requirements that make up
The Standard, organisations can opt for assessment against an
extended framework resulting in additional recognition by meeting a
minimum of 26 further requirements for Bronze, 76 for Silver, and
126 for Gold. The Lanchester Library was pleased to have met an
additional 71 evidence requirements to gain Bronze recognition,
narrowly missing out on a Silver award.
University Librarian, Caroline Rock commented: "The
Investors in People Framework provides us with a valuable tool for
ensuring that a philosophy of focussed people development underpins
all that we do. The achievement of the additional bronze award is
testimony to the commitment of staff at all levels of the Library
to providing a supportive and high quality working
environment."
