Regeneration agency Erewash Partnership is distributing 30,000
guides to promote the benefits of shopping in Ilkeston.
This is the fourth edition of the popular handy-size map and the
first new issue for five years, reflecting new developments and
changes to the shopping streets. It even includes references to
Millership Way, the name for the new Ilkeston-Awsworth link.
The guide encourages people to shop locally. Packed full of
useful information it will also be a handy reference tool for
visitors from further afield who are sampling what the town, one of
the biggest in Derbyshire, has to offer.
It features post codes of car parks so that drivers will be able
to use their satellite navigation systems to find their way
around.
Another new feature shows bus routes, in conjunction with
operator trentbarton buses.
Other facilities highlighted are recycling points and cash
machines. Even closed circuit television cameras are
highlighted.
The guide has been produced on a not-for-profit basis. Funding
was raised from businesses in the area through sponsorship and
advertising.
Market towns co-ordinator Paul Calladine said: "This map shows
the wide variety of shopping opportunities in Ilkeston - everything
from well-established independent outlets and the popular local
market to specialist shops and nation chains.
"We have had good support from advertisers and sponsors wanting
to put their logos on the map. We are grateful to them and hope
that they and the other retail outlets will benefit from increased
patronage by shoppers."
The maps will be distributed to homes, and can also be picked up
at schools, the town's library and hospital, shops and other
businesses, leisure centres, and Erewash Museum.
It is also available from the Partnership's office in
Wharncliffe Road and its Cotmanhay Enterprise Centre.
A similar guide is being prepared to promote Long Eaton town
centre.
