In the autumn, seasonal flu will add another dimension to the
current outbreak of swine flu, warn Solihull business leaders.
To help firms cope, Solihull Chamber of Commerce and Industry is
staging a health briefing by the NHS Care Trust on Monday,
September 14.
Speaker Dr. Stephen Munday, Solihull's Director of Public
Health, says that local businesses can play a key part in helping
health workers limit the spread.
He is playing a lead role in the borough's arrangements for
dealing with the pandemic outbreak of swine flu. He says:
"Local businesses can educate their staff, customers and
clients on what to do if they catch swine flu.
"At the moment the virus is less severe than originally thought
but in the autumn, seasonal flu could cause the virus to mutate and
business leaders need to be aware of how they could be
affected."
The event will be held at St. Martin's School, Brueton Avenue,
from 5.15pm until 6.30pm. Solihull has now become part of the
West Midlands "area of widespread community transmission".
Jane Jackson, Director of Solihull Chamber of Commerce, says:
"The impact of an escalation in confirmed cases is difficult to
predict but health and hygiene information will help businesses to
prepare."
