West Midlands businesses will have the opportunity to quiz a
senior Bank of England official next week.
Charlie Bean, the Bank of England deputy governor, will attend a
free seminar at the Hyatt Hotel on Tuesday (July 21) organised by
Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCI).
Bank lending to the corporate sector has fallen dramatically
over the past 12 months and Mr Bean will explain why the government
is pumping more money into the economy through the quantitative
easing programme.
This should mean more money for banks to lend and more money for
people to spend. But the latest monthly lending report from
the Bank of England shows little evidence that companies are
investing.
The event runs from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and is open to non Chamber
members as well as members. A buffet lunch will be
provided.
