After a competitive tender process, Midlands law firm
Weightmans has been appointed in three out of five LOTs for
the provision of legal services to Leicestershire Constabulary.
The firm will be the sole supplier of legal services for all
police specific related legal work, all licensing related legal
work and all financial and commercial legal work.
Although the contract is for Leicestershire Constabulary
specifically, it remains open for other East Midlands Region
Forces. These forces are Derbyshire Constabulary,
Lincolnshire Police, Northamptonshire Police and Nottinghamshire
Police.
The tendering process began in January and firms have been
evaluated based on their tender response, pricing structures,
financial and insurance policies and overall approach to
diversity.
Weightmans partner John Riddell who led the firm's tender team
said: "We are delighted with this appointment which confirms
Weightmans' reputation as the leading police law firm in the
country. We are proud to have the opportunity to formally support
Leicestershire Constabulary in providing police services to the
communities of Leicestershire and Rutland. We look forward to a
long and mutually beneficial relationship with the
Constabulary."
This contract will begin on 1 August 2009 and is effective for a
period of three years until 31 July 2012 after which a further two
12 month extensions will be applicable subject to agreement with
Leicestershire Constabulary.
