Law firm Weightmans has helped a local festival committee in the
Midlands become an incorporated body. The work was done on a
pro-bono basis and was brought about through Weightmans' connection
with Leicestershire Cares- a charity which encourages local
businesses to get involved in community initiatives.
Damian Cadman-Jones, a solicitor in the Commercial Dispute
Resolution & Insolvency team at the firm's Midlands offices,
explains:
"Our Midlands Commercial Dispute Resolution & Insolvency
team manages the firm's relationship with Leicestershire Cares, and
this particular opportunity came through the Leicestershire Cares
ProHelp programme. ProHelp brokers requests for pro-bono services
to local community groups and charities in need of professional
advice.
Barry Doherty, partner in the Corporate team at the Midlands
offices who helped the Committee obtain incorporated status,
explains:
"The legal process of becoming an incorporated organisation can
be daunting to a group the size of the Festival committee but as
the event continues to grow year on year, the Festival really was
in need of taking on that legal status.
"As a firm, Weightmans is dedicated to providing help to local
causes wherever possible. Through Leicestershire Cares ProHelp we
can do just that, and offering pro-bono legal advice to local
groups like the Stathern Festival Committee is just part of our
ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility programme."
The Stathern Festival is an annual event hosted within Stathern
village in Melton Mowbray and the Vale involving a range of
different shows, exhibitions, and events in mid-June. It began in
2005 and has continued to grow in success and size annually.
