UK Diners have decided Nottingham restaurant Anoki will sit at the Top Table

A Nottingham restaurant has beaten off the challenge from some of the biggest and best-known restaurants in Europe to land a place in the prestigious 2009 Toptable Top 100.

Anoki, which has restaurants in the Lace Market in Nottingham, on the A38 at Burton and on London Road in Derby, was the only restaurant in Derbyshire and one of the only two in the East Midlands to secure a slot in this year's Top 100.

Indian restaurant Anoki was chosen from the 4,500 restaurants listed on Toptables' hugely popular online booking service to gain national recognition in the hidden gem category for the unsung heroes.

Toptable is Europe's largest online restaurant reservation service. The site encourages its users to rate the restaurants they visit and receives thousands of reviews every single day. The Top 100 awards are based entirely on the views of more than three million diners who have booked with the service over the past 12 months.

Anoki was commended for its contemporary take on the traditional Indian restaurant, its exquisite menu that delivers an authentic taste of the sub continent, together with its extensive wine list and opulent surroundings.

Anoki is no stranger to receiving national accolades. It was recently featured in Square Meal's Gourmet guide to the top ten hottest curry houses nationwide and ten hottest restaurants across the UK in the culture supplement of the Times newspaper.

Commenting on the award, Naveed Khaliq, owner of Anoki said: "I am delighted that Anoki has been listed in the Toptable Top 100 Awards, which is testament to the hard work and dedication of my executive chef Rakesh Kumar and the rest of the team."

"To be the only restaurant in Derbyshire to be recognised in the Top 100 is a huge honour and an achievement of which we are very proud," added Nav.

A world away from the traditional curry house, Anoki provides traditional Indian cuisine and a wide vegetarian choice devised from authentic recipes. Each dish is created using fresh produce and made to order and is complemented by a carefully selected menu of wines and champagnes and beers from around the world.
