The specialist charities division of chartered accountants
Clement Keys has won the contract to provide audit services to
Birmingham-based charity First Light, the UK's leading initiative
enabling young people to realise their potential via creative
digital film and media projects.
Clement Keys specialise in services to the not-for-profit
sector, providing both accounting and business advice to ensure
charities comply with the requirements of the Charity Commission
and the Charities SORP.
First Light is funded through the UK Film Council and directly
from the Department for Children, Schools and Families
administering over £5m each year. Since launching in
2001, First Light has helped over 20,000 young people make over
1,000 short digital films taking part in every stage of the process
from initial idea to script writing, filming, editing and
screening.
Renowned producer Barbara Broccoli, best known for the James
Bond film franchise, is chairman of the board of directors of First
Light. Alongside the grant element of First Light's work, it
also organises the UK's biggest celebration of young creativity in
the form of the First Light Awards held annual at the Odeon
Leicester Square.
The Awards are a permanent fixture in the film awards calendar
attracting an impressive list of industry partners and celebrity
endorsements including Daniel Craig, Kate Beckinsale, Sienna
Miller, Orlando Bloom, Joseph Fiennes, James Franco, Danny Boyle,
Michael Sheen and Kevin Spacey.
First Light is currently spearheading the new UK-wide film
education strategy
Film: 21st Century Literacy, which aims to co-ordinate film
education to help children understand and enjoy the moving
image.
Clement Keys already has significant experience in the film
world, having worked with Screen West Midlands for a number of
years. The lead agency for film, TV and digital media across
Birmingham and the Black Country, Herefordshire, Shropshire,
Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire, Screen West
Midlands develops media literacy and education initiatives,
promotes involvement in media production, develops local talent and
promotes career opportunities in the digital media, interactive and
games sectors.
