A-level and university students from the Midlands are taking up
the opportunity to attend a week-long workshop at accountants and
business advisers PKF during the summer holidays.
Students from King Edward VI Aston School in Birmingham, Old
Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge and undergraduates from
Birmingham and Coventry Universities will be among the 21 students
expected to attend the free workshop.
They will join students from Leeds, Sheffield and York
universities and pupils from schools and colleges in
Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
Students from across England were invited to take part in a
formal application process to be selected to participate in the
workshop which is being held at the firm's Leicester office.
The workshop, from August 3-7, aims to provide students with an
insight into a career in accountancy. Delegates will learn about
areas of business advice including audit, forensic accounting, tax,
corporate recovery and corporate finance.
The top 10 accountancy firm recruits approximately 70 graduates
per year of which about 10 join its Midland offices.
Gareth Singleton, assurance and advisory partner at PKF in the
Midlands, will be one of the speakers at the workshop. He said:
"This workshop will give students the opportunity to learn more
about the accountancy profession and also provide them with useful
tips and information such as interviewing skills, writing a CV and
presentation skills to help them when they come to apply for
jobs.
"The workshop is highly interactive and will give the students
the chance to speak to PKF employees and partners about the firm
and their chosen specialisms and learn about the PKF culture and
the importance of client service."
The firm advises a range of businesses and specialises in
advising growing and entrepreneurial businesses, AIM and fully
listed companies, and public and not-for-profit organisations.
Gareth Singleton added: "This means delegates will get a unique
insight into the role of an accountant in the world of business
which is very relevant in the current economic climate.
"It also provides us with the opportunity to meet potential
future employees who would like to join the firm either at graduate
level or through the vocational route."
