partnership.
Project partners gathered on site at the former Staffordshire
County Council Trading Standards Building in Burton-Upon-Trent this
week to observe the final stage of demolition in the presence of
the Mayor of East Staffordshire, Geoff Morrison.
Situated on the corner of Horninglow Street and Guild Street and
adjacent Trent & Dove Housing Ltd's HQ, the site is being
redeveloped into stylish town centre apartments for Trent &
Dove.
Part funded by the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), the
£3.2m development is a partnership between contractor and
developer William Davis Ltd and Trent & Dove and will provide
34 apartments, car parking, a communal landscaped area and three
covered cycle stores.
Each of the homes has been designed to achieve a Code for
Sustainable Homes 3 star rating and William Davis and Trent &
Dove have worked closely with the planners to ensure the aesthetics
of the new building remain in keeping with others in the locality,
including the magistrates' court, which are situated opposite the
site.
Guy Higgins, managing director, William Davis said: "We have an
excellent track record with Trent & Dove in the provision of
high quality, sustainable, affordable housing and the scheme at the
former Trading Standards Building will be no exception. I am sure
the new homes will not only assist in meeting the area's demand for
this type of housing but also will rejuvenate the entrance into the
town."
John Jackson, chair, Trent & Dove Housing added: "This is a
key gateway to Burton Town centre and right next to our Burton HQ.
We have therefore been very keen to achieve a building that will be
cutting edge in design, include latest "eco-technology" and reflect
Burton's proud brewing heritage. We feel the new building will
achieve all of these and more. It will of course also provide much
needed affordable homes for local people."
All homes will be constructed to Lifetime Homes Standards and
the scheme is due for completion in February 2010.
