St Basils Walk
Intrepid members of Drivers Jonas' Birmingham office have
successfully completed the annual Great St Basils Walk raising
around £3,000 for the Midland based charity.
Nine members of the Birmingham team completed the charity's
fundraising routes across the Brecon Beacons which included scaling
Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak south of Snowdon at some 886m.
Despite a 5am start, rocky pathways, increasing temperatures,
blisters growing on top of blisters and the temptation of an
en-route beer garden, the Drivers Jonas team persevered throughout
the challenge and successfully reached the finish line in order to
secure pledged donations for the charity.
Team member Claire Rowley commented: "The Great St Basils Walk
was a real test of our team fitness particularly as temperatures on
the day reached 24 degrees. It was a demanding challenge but
one which it was great to complete not only surrounded by
supportive colleagues but also over 600 other walkers. Our
efforts have helped raise desperately needed funds for St Basils
which will go towards preventing youth homelessness in the
region."
Drivers Jonas entered two teams into the Great St Basils Walk.
Claire Rowley, Helen Jackson, Siobhan McCrystal, Claudia
Clemente and seasoned St Basil's veteran Carwyn Beswick completed a
14 mile route in 7:30 hrs. Matt Williams, Joanne Hooper, Simon
Zargar and Fiona Brereton (accompanied by Ros Williams and Tom
Milden), completed the 28 mile route in 10:15 hrs.
